Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 6 July 2026

St Andrews Aquarium is committed to making its website accessible and easy to use for as many people as possible.

We want all visitors to be able to browse our website, plan their visit, find information about our animals and experiences, and contact us without unnecessary barriers.

This accessibility statement applies to:

www.standrewsaquarium.co.uk

Our approach to website accessibility

We are working to make our website accessible in line with recognised accessibility best practice, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, known as WCAG.

Our aim is to make the website clear, simple to navigate and usable for visitors with a wide range of needs, including people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, browser zoom, voice control or accessibility settings on their device.

Accessibility widget

We have added an accessibility widget to the website to help visitors customise their browsing experience.

Depending on the visitor’s needs, the widget may provide options such as adjusting text size, improving contrast, changing spacing, highlighting links, pausing animations or supporting easier reading.

The accessibility widget is intended to improve the browsing experience, but we recognise that accessibility is not achieved by a widget alone. We will continue to review the website’s design, content, structure and functionality to make improvements where needed.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

As part of our work on the new website, we aim to:

  • Use clear page headings and a logical page structure

  • Keep content easy to read and understand

  • Make navigation as simple and consistent as possible

  • Add alternative text to meaningful images where appropriate

  • Use readable colour contrast where possible

  • Make links and buttons clear and descriptive

  • Support keyboard navigation where possible

  • Avoid relying only on colour to communicate important information

  • Keep forms as clear and straightforward as possible

  • Review website content regularly as the site grows

Areas we are still reviewing

We are continuing to review the website and may identify areas where accessibility can be improved.

Some parts of the website may not yet be fully accessible. This may include:

  • Older or third-party content

  • Embedded tools or booking systems

  • Some images or decorative design elements

  • Third-party links, platforms or services

  • PDF documents or downloadable files, where used

  • Some visual effects, animations or interactive features

Where third-party tools or external websites are used, such as booking platforms, payment providers, social media platforms or embedded services, their accessibility may be partly outside our direct control. However, we will aim to use providers and content that support a good user experience.

Tickets, shop and third-party systems

Some ticket bookings, animal experiences, adoptions, gift vouchers or shop features may be provided through linked or third-party systems.

We aim to make the journey to these services as clear as possible from our website. If you experience difficulty using any booking, ticketing or shop feature, please contact us and we will do our best to help.

Feedback and contact information

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our website.

If you find any part of the website difficult to use, or if you need information in a different format, please contact us:

When contacting us, it would be helpful if you can tell us:

  • What went wrong or what made it difficult

  • The device, browser or assistive technology you were using, if relevant

  • The format you need the information in, if you are requesting an alternative format

We will review accessibility feedback and aim to respond as soon as reasonably possible.

Ongoing improvements

Accessibility is an ongoing process. As we add new pages, features, images, ticketing links, animal information and visitor content, we will continue to consider accessibility as part of our website updates.

We will update this statement when significant changes are made to the website or when further accessibility improvements are completed.
