Our team have been working hard to make sure your visit is safe

Like every business, we have had to adjust our operations due to ensure we are covid secure and your next visit to the Aquarium will be slightly different as a result of those adjustments.

We’re pleased to confirm that St Andrews Aquarium has been achieved the “We’re Good To Go” accreditation, the official UK mark to signal that a tourism and hospitality business has worked hard to follow Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines and has a process in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing.

As we re-open, please be patient with our team as they also adjust to new ways of working. We know if we all work together we can make your trip safe, and covid secure.

Before you get to the Aquarium

In order to ensure we remain Covid secure, we kindly ask that you book ahead online. To manage the numbers of people in the Aquarium to allow for social distancing, we have opened up 15 minute entry slots each with a managed capacity. This saves you queuing time, and also means that we can better manage the number of people coming into the building at any one time. Please book a time slot that gives you and your family adequate time to get around the aquarium.

Wheelchair Users

We regret that, due to the one way restrictions in place, that we are unable to provide safe access for wheelchair users at this time and we’re extremely sorry for any upset that causes.

Opening Times

We will be operating under reduced (winter) opening hours of 10am- 5.30pm (last admission 4.30pm), so please book a time slot that gives you and your family adequate time to get around the aquarium. Unfortunately our coffee shop will not be open for the foreseeable future as a result of the restrictions.


In line with current guidance for the mandatory wearing of masks in enclosed spaces in Scotland,
please bring your own mask(s) for use when visiting the Aquarium.

When you arrive at the Aquarium

Please queue to enter in the designated area outside the Aquarium and employ the latest social distancing guidance. It is important that you do this to keep other visitors safe.

Hand Sanitiser

There will be a hand sanitiser station at the door, please keep our staff safe by using this before entering the Aquarium.

Payment on site

If you can’t book online in advance, which is strongly recommended, we will accept contactless payment on the door.


The toilets are located on the stairs going down into the Aquarium. Because of the one way system we recommend that you visit the toilets at the beginning of your visit as you will not be able to return to them. Only one family can use the toilets at a time. Frequent cleaning of these facilities will be in place throughout the day.

In the Aquarium

There will be hand sanitizing stations places around the building and we invite you to use them as often as you feel is necessary. Additional cleaning will also be undertaken throughout the day to ensure as safe a visit as possible. Please do what you can to help by minimising the areas you touch (ie. the tanks). We also kindly ask that, for the safety of all our visitors, you stay together as a party as you move through the Aquarium and that young children are encouraged to hold your hands and stay close to you during the visit. We will not be running our daily animal talks at this time in a bid to ensure that small groups do not gather accidentally but all of our animals will be very glad to see you, they’ve been missing all that attention for the last 3 months.

Exiting the Aquarium

There is a one-way system in place throughout your visit and the exit is now be via the coffee shop and ramp, to avoid any crossover with people entering the Aquarium. If you are leaving a buggy in the reception area, this will be moved down to the coffee shop area during your visit by a member of our staff, and will be there for you to collect at the end of your visit.

Feeding Experiences & Annual Pass Holders

All our feeding experiences remain postponed due to the restrictions. If you have a feeding experience booked, a member of our team will be in touch to re-schedule your experience as soon as it is safe to resume.

We want to reassure all our Annual Pass holders that have extended their pass expiry dates by FOUR MONTHS, just over the amount of time that you were unable to use them during the lockdown.
